Men’s Head of the River Race and Veteran’s Head 2022
Sudbury rowing Club had two mens crews racing on the Thames last weekend - the Mens Head of the River race was on Saturday and the Veterans Head of the River race on Sunday. Both races covering the famous boat race course but in the opposite direction (Mortlake to Putney).
An early start for crews on Saturday, the race started at 10:00 to fit in with the tide on the Thames and 283 crews competed in various categories.
The Sudbury crew of Pete Donovan, Steve Zimmerman, Karl Hillman, Raph Franke, Nick George, Harry Moule, Ben Thompson, Byron Bullen and Amelia Moule (cox) had a long wait at the start - they started 239th and conditions on the Thames were unusually glorious. The crew finished in 195th place in a time of 21 minutes and 8 seconds.
On Sunday 186 crews competed in the Veterans Head of the River race which started at a much more civilised time of 12:30. The conditions again were calm although not as warm.
The Sudbury Masters E crew of Mark Todd, Keith Paxman, Tim Wallace, Kevin Fish, Simon White, Steve Nichols (substitute for Robin King), Paul Adams, Lee Adams and Victoria Burgess (cox) started 54th and finished in 81st position in a time of 22 minutes and 3 seconds.
