It was a very busy weekend for Sudbury Rowing Club who held their annual home regatta.

Club members, family and friends helped to set up the event which was held on Friars Meadow on Saturday and it was an early start for many. Racing commenced at 8:30 and crews competed from all over the UK, as well as Switzerland, Turkey and New Zealand.

It was unusual to have guaranteed sunshine with no rainstorms. Spectators made the most of the weather as well as the refreshment tents and BBQ.

Racing was eventful and the bend, as ever, presented a challenge to visiting crews. Sudbury crews achieved ten wins overall.

The first of the day came from the Mixed Open quad of Byron Bullen, Harry Moule, Martha Bullen and Amelia Moule.

Valerie Ingram-Boor won the Open PR 1x in a close race against Luke Payne.

Rebecca Franke had her debut win in the WJ14 single scull.

The women’s eight won the women’s sprint eights event, crewed by Victoria Burgess, Elise Richmond, Amelia Maskell, Zoe and Emma Rogers, Holly Robbins, Tayla Bentley, Evie Pragerand Tricia Fincham (cox).

Also winning their event was Mixed Masters B quad of Lydia Brown, Tim Wallace, Mark Todd and Rachel Bassett.

Jenny Ward and Sophie Lovegrove won the womens Masters C/D double scull.

Lydia Brown and Tim Wallace won mixed masters B double scull.

Junior double Bertie Kerry and Tom Graham won the Open Novice Double sculls event, setting a new course record.

Mens Open Double Byron Bullen and Harry Moule achieved another good win breaking the course record by 3 seconds!
