Sudbury Rowing Club have had a busy few weeks with members attending Peterborough Summer Regatta, Great Ouse Marathon, World Masters Chamionships in Bled, Slovenia and Cambridge Autumn Regatta.

David Wasse and Jeremy Milbank won the Masters G double sculls event at Peterborough Summer regatta. Other competitors included Sophie Lovegrove in her debut single scull, Jen Titterington and Asha Thobhani in a composite quad scull. Nell Belcher and Amelia Maskell also competed in single sculls.

The Great Ouse Marathon, from Ely to Denver covers a 21km course and various crews competed. An impressive race from mixed double scull of Sophie Lovegrove and Pete Donovan in a time of 1 hour 55 minutes, winning their event. Competing in the same category were Tracy Muir and Tim Hysom who finished in a time of 2 hours. The Masters F coxless four of Mike Arnott, Keith Paxman, Andrew Blit and Steve Nichols finished in a time of 2 hours 1 minute. The composite crew of Jen Titterington (Sudbury) and Bev Goodchild (Ipswich) raced in the Women’s IM2 double sculls and finished in 2 hours 4 minutes. The Masters E double scull of Sean Moriarty and Alan Muir finished in 2 hours 9 minutes. Sophie Brown competed in the Adaptive TA category and finished in 3 hours 16 minutes.

Some of the clubs veteran rowers travelled to Bled, Slovenia to compete in the World Masters Championships. The regatta was held over 5 days and conditions varied from day to day. David Wasse and Jeremy Milbank competed in the Masters G doubles. Women’s Masters E double scull of Rosemary Hogsbjerg and Sarah Stirling finished in bronze medal position in their race. Also racing were Tracy Muir and Teresa Moriarty in the Masters D doubles, Alan Muir and Sean Moriarty in the Men’s doubles event and Tracy Muir also doubled with Jeremy Milbank in the mixed doubles.

Cambridge Autumn Regatta saw more success, firstly from the Men’s Masters C coxed four of Lee Adams, Tim Hysom, Steve Nichols, Paul Adams and Helen Sharp (cox). The juniors had two wins – Harry Moule won the Junior 13 single sculls event and Amelia Maskell and Martha Bullen won the Junior 15 double sculls category. Amelia Moule reached the final in the Junior 17 single sculls event as well as reaching the semi-final in the Junior 18 double sculls with partner Lucy Edwards. Amelia also coxed a Peterborough four to victory for the second time this season. Sam McLoughlin reached the final in the Junior 15 singles sculls, as did the Junior 16 double of Byron Bullen and Sam Mcloughin.

This was the last regatta of the season and crews will now be focusing on longer distance Head races over the winter and training will continue on and off the water.
